When my boys were little, I would volunteer, sometimes reluctantly, as a chaperone on field trips. This task could be challenging as one or two of the precious angels were a bit on the busy side and ran about like feral cats.
In preparaing for these outings, teachers began instructing the kids about their chaperone. Chaperones were their guides and they needed to always know where they were and how to recognize them. That way if they found themselves feeling lost, anxious, or scared, they could fix their eyes on their chaperone and rest knowing where they were and the direction they were going.
Just like children on field trips, we can feel anxious, scared, and lost. What do we do in those moments?
God reminds me that Jesus willingly volunteered to be our chaperone every day of our lives, for eternity. He will never leave us. All we need to do is keep our eyes on Him. He knows exactly where we are and exactly where we are going. When we feel lost, anxious, or scared, we fix our eyes on Jesus.
Just like the instructions given to the kids before the field trip, the Bible tells us that Jesus is our guide and shows us how to recognize Him. Spend time with Him through His word. Get to know His voice. Talk to Him through prayer. He is real and will show himself to you. When you look around your everyday world you will see him. You will see him in the most subtle unmistakable ways. He will NEVER leave you.
God Bless.
