Over the last few days, like a lot of people, I have been saddened by the overwhelming acceptance that spewing hate, victimizing one another, degrading, and threatening harm to each other has become so normal in society.
I have also been filled with so much of God’s love.
People have come together comforting and reassure one other that things will be okay.
People are showing Christlike qualities. They love others unconditionally, forgiving their pasts, and showing mercy. They are living each day on purpose and are looking for opportunities to lift each other up. They sacrifice by putting the needs of others ahead of their own. They are showing grace and loving each other through their differences. They are figuring out ways to help the needy and marginalized. This group of people, openly Christian or not, are truly living out the greatest commandment that Jesus left us with.
Matthew 22: 34-40
Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
People who profess to be Christians should forgive, love, and care for those around them, even when they don’t deserve it. Be kind and generous to others, especially the vulnerable as it is exactly how Jesus lived and has commanded us to live. But we find too often in today’s world, that people are declaring that they are Christians standing on the word of God who are not behaving in a manner displaying Christlike qualities; this is heartbreaking. The Bible does tell us in Deuteronomy 27:19 “Cursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow”
Jesus is kind, compassionate, and generous, especially to those in need. Matthew 25:31-40 Jesus says, “I was hungry, and you gave me food, I was thirsty, and you gave me drink, I was a stranger, and you welcomed me. This is showing how we are to treat foreigners and those in need.
Hold tight dear Brothers and Sisters to the words in red. The Lord our God is with us and will always be. He never promised that life would be easy, but He did promise He would never leave us. God is in control. Let us continue to live life according to Jesus’ example and commandment.
